Is it possible for someone with epilepsy to claim DLA?

Question

Iapplied for DLA and got rejected as it’s not seen as a problem, despite there being days when i cannot cook due to the myoclonig jerks.

Is it possible for someone with epilepsy to claim DLA? I know of someone else who gets it and yet their epilepsy isnt as bad as mine and the person can also drive.

Is there anything I can do to make my claim stronger?

Answer

Making a claim for DLA (Disability Living Allowance) can be really difficult. The form is very long and it can be easy to miss out important information that would make your claim stronger. Epilepsy Action has a guide to completing the DLA form. If you’d like a free copy, phone the Helpline on 0808 800 5050 and they’ll send it to you. You might also find it helpful to talk things over with the epilepsy adviser while you’re on the phone.

  1. hi lynsey you can claim DLA for epilepsy but it does depend on your seizures and the severity of them, i aplied for them for my son as he has absence seizures and myoclonic seizures but he is not allowed to be left alone at any time he cant even cross a road on his own which is pretty difficult trying to keep a 13 year old boy in, if i was you i would appeal against the decision, good luck hope you get some help soon.

  2. hiya i have epilepsy and i am on DLA but depends on your seizures cause i have 4 different types of fits i can have up to 100 absence seizures and i cant be left on my own
